Deftly switching from comedy to pathos and back again.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Robin McLoughlin\u2019s chameleon like ability to present both a stay-at-home confectioner and a conflicted vicar.&#8217; &#8216;<\/em><em>Barbara Horne\u2019s portrayal of a third-age carer at the end of her tether was both hilarious and heart breaking&#8217;. <\/em><em>&#8216;Dawn Finnerty\u2019s unloved mother commanded the stage with a performance that combined vulnerability with steely resolve.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018arguably his strongest work to date&#8230; i<\/em><em>t\u2019s fortunate John\u2019s work benefited from such a gifted company.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #d22300;\"><b>David Vass<\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018formally innovative, seamlessly blending direct audience address with conventional dialogue, and, riskily, also extremely funny, dealing with its subject through some jet-black humour.\u2018<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #d22300;\"><b>George Norton<\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Just fabulous. If you get the chance go and see it!\u2019<br \/>\n<\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #d22300;\">Amy Lunn<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Powerful and moving play with terrific performances from all the cast.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #d22300;\"><span style=\"caret-color: #d22300;\">Anwen<\/span>\u00a0Hurt\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;custom&#8221; accent_color=&#8221;#dd3333&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;287&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;right&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Winter \u201853<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018fEAST Theatre is a local gem which tells the stories of old Norfolk and its characters and in its latest production, the professional actors were joined by a chorus of nine local people&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A superbly crafted tragi-comedy typically infused with John\u2019s affection for his subject, Winter \u201953 is a dark tale about how we construct our history and conveys a sense of place long since washed away by the raging torrent of time.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Directed by Mandy McKenna, it is demanding, both for the audience and the players, and relies heavily on dramatic dialogue. The principal actors had a lot to do to keep us engaged, but they managed it with masterly confidence.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #c70c0c;\"><strong>Patrick Prekopp, Just Regional<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018A great production of a well crafted play.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #c70c0c;\"><strong>Valerie Parsons<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>\u2018A great success. The play was wonderful. Rob John\u2019s \u2018The Canada Boys\u2019, from fEAST theatre features actors who talk \u2018proper Norfolk.- They du!\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Delicately, yet amusingly, the play explores the fluidity of these relationships and ambitions. Acted beautifully by Owen Evans, Robin McLoughlin, Tabitha Woodgett and Dawn Finnerty, the play was written and directed by Rob John. It was warmly appreciated by a full house&#8230;it\u2019s not to be missed.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #c20c0c;\"><strong>Carla Phillips EDP<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u2018The production has been resonating with me all day. Very powerful and the ending was a beautiful moment.\u2019<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #c20c0c;\">Chris Lawton<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8216;We watched Canada Boys&#8230;last night and must say how impressed we were. It was superbly written and extremely well acted. It is very unusual to find actors with such convincing Norfolk accents. I would go again and again.&#8217;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #c20c0c;\">Verity Connolly<\/span><\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;custom&#8221; accent_color=&#8221;#dd3333&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;579&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>One-Eighty<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018The author\u2019s well-crafted script, rippling with sharp dialogue and strong characterisation, blends humour with a soul-baring delve into frailties lurking under the Rhino\u2019s skin, which occasionally see the meek man erupt as his suppressed emotions boil over.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Evans&#8230;peels back his seemingly simple character\u2019s complex layers with a powerful and poignant performance&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018The other cast members of the new fEAST theatre company&#8230; also shine when they step up to the oche: Hayley Thompson as the long-suffering doting fan who takes Norman in during his troubled times, Robin McLoughlin as the flashy agent trying to resurrect the star\u2019s career and image, and Sarah Langrish-Smith as his flirty partner whose signals confuse and derail Norman\u2019s recovering self-confidence.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #bf0b0b;\"><strong>Richard Batson, EDP<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\">[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1941&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h3><strong>The Hollyhock Trilogy<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><em>&#8216;a compelling and thought-provoking evening&#8217;<br \/>\n\u2018a rare treat to see such bold, sure footed writing so expertly delivered.\u2019<br \/>\n<\/em><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"s2\"><strong><span style=\"color: #d22300;\"><span style=\"caret-color: #d22300;\"><b>George Norton<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"x_gmail-x11i5rnm x_gmail-xat24cr x_gmail-x1mh8g0r x_gmail-x1vvkbs x_gmail-xtlvy1s x_gmail-x126k92a\">\n<p dir=\"auto\"><em>\u00a0Finnerty reveals a chameleon like ability to deftly switch from light tragic-comedy to something altogether darker.\u00a0McLoughlin\u2019s touching portrait of a gentle, yet damaged, man was just as strong, and all the more remarkable given his involvement with the production was at the eleventh hour.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><em>Finnerty invests Sue with a tragic emptiness reminiscent of Patricia Routledge\u2019s Woman of No Importance,<\/em><\/div>\n<p><em>&#8216;Rob John extends the possibilities of what can be done with a monologue, pushing on past the obvious narrative arc to offer up a tale altogether messier &#8216;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2018In reviewing Feast Theatre\u2019s Canada Boys in 2022, I described it as one the finest productions seen at the Corn Hall for a very long time. It would appear that two years on, I am compelled to repeat myself.\u2019<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #d22300;\"><b>David Vass<\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;fabulous&#8217;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8216;loved the plays&#8217;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8216; the acting was outstanding&#8217;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8216;glued to my seat all evening&#8217;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8216;amazing performance&#8217;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8216;excellent&#8217;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8216;an amazing performance. Fantastic script and brilliant acting. Wherever you can see it as it tours Norfolk, it is well worth it. From chewing gum and doughnuts to Swing Band music, from constant aircraft noise to romance, effects are profound.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8230;The audience was enthralled by the fine production, ably directed by its author. The cast (from last year\u2019s strong \u2018Canada Boys\u2019) were outstanding, Norfolk accents good. Owen Evans (one of the \u2018Nimmo Twins\u2019} sensitively conveyed a familiar mixture of taciturn awkwardness and friendly trust as the father. Dawn Finnerty, playing his wife and Tabitha Woodgett, his slightly slow, dreamy daughter were also terrific, as was Robin McLoughlin&#8230;Don\u2019t miss it!\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #d10a0a;\"><strong>Carla Phillips EDP<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Parachute is excellent. Loved it from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. So moving, multi-layered and clever. I even had tears in my eyes at the end!\u2019<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #d10a0a;\"><strong>Patrice Baldwin<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Excellent, brilliantly written, directed and performed production of a brand new play by Rob John from the fEAST theatre company.
